Music festivals. So many music festivals. It seems like everyday a new one pops up. There's an argument to be made about there possibly being too many. While this is a debate for another time, we all have our favorites, each one for specific reasons. But, what if you're looking for something different? In another country perhaps? What if you could get a list from your favorite DJs on their personal favorites in that country? For this festival guide, we travel to Romania with two of the countries finest. Ahead of their upcoming release on SCI + TEC, Floog & Mahony gave us their recommendations on the top 5 festivals you must attend.

Where: Constanta, Romania

When: April and August

Sunwaves is a place which is very special to us both, and known for its long party hours, starting on a Saturday and going for many days. There are two editions of the festival, the one in April has local artists and all Romanian talent, and the other in August brings in International talent like Marco Carola and Dubfire. It was ranked the No.1 festival in the world by RA in 2016. You can fly into Buchrest, which is then a 2 hour drive, or into Constantia Kogalniceanu (CND) which is in the same town as the festival but can be expensive to fly into and also not direct routes available.

Where: Cluj-Napoca

When: October

This is another big festival with a heavy Romanian focused line up, but also bring in some names like TiNi, Blond:ish, Nastia and Margaret Dygas. Getting to Cluj is easy – there is an airport which services the city. And also this town is the birthplace of the legend of Dracula….with many old castles and buildings, you can go on a tour. So maybe something fun to do when you are done with the festival and have a couple of days to explore.

Where: Micfalau, Covasna County

When: July

This is a huge festival but in the past it’s been less known than the likes of Sunwaves. Its now starting to get some recognition. This one is a little different, as its very much about freedom and connecting to nature, as its held in a really amazing remote area of the country. It’s a more-hippy style culture party with really good selection of stages, great food and catering, and everyone gets dressed up.

Revolution Festival

Where: Timisoara, Romania

When: May / June

The famous Exit festival in Serbia is also involved in this one, as its made by the same team of people. Really good production and it has a few stages to choose from, which mainly host all local talent. Any festival run by this team is always going to be a good one! Timisoara has a good airport, so getting to this festival is easy and not too expensive.

Where: Bucharest, Romania

When: December

MEGA huge festival in the city of Bucharest which blends electronic music, art and music technology – so it really has something for everyone. It has a huge line up, with international acts also, this year they are bringing Loco Dice, GUTI, Ben Klock, Cassy and Matthew Jonson. This is also really easy to get to as its near to the city, unlike some of the others – they are quite remote.
