J.I.D is not messing around with his sophomore album.

Many people around the United States are slowly wandering their stuffed selves back to work or school after Thanksgiving and trying to not work by shopping various Cyber Monday deals. In their stupor, everyone will need a pick-me-up today and Dreamville signee and fast-rising rapper J.I.D is here to provide with his new album DiCaprio 2.

As you might expect from the title, it is in honor of Leonardo DiCaprio and the cover art uses a pic of the actor when he was a young heartthrob.

Much like Leo behind the camera, the Atlanta rapper shows his versatility throughout the record. He raps with blazing speed on “Off Deez,” switching flows from his smooth rapping to a furious barrage of lines in an instant. He adapts to features on “Tiied” with Ella Mai and 6LACK for a softer and more personal record about a relationship that isn’t working out. Each of the artists offers their perspective on the relationship. He then slows things down for a future stoner anthem “Hot Box,” that gives Joey Bada$$ and Method Man time to show their love for the green.

He works with stalwarts in the business on the record like Mike Will Made IT & DJ Drama on production and a slew of rappers & singers such as BJ The Chicago Kid, 6LACK, Ella Mai, J. Cole, Method Man and A$AP Ferg. Being on Dreamville certainly helps, but given the buzz that came after his debut The Never Story last year, it isn’t a surprise he was able to get these names on his record.

If you weren’t aware of JID before this album, now is the time to get on board, because after The Never Story and possibly an even better sophomore album, it seems as though the only way is up for the Atlanta rapper.
