November was full of so many brand new releases it was nearly impossible to pick only 15. Check out these new releases from BOYO, Worn-Tin and Swimm that will make it hard not to groove your way into the holiday season.
1. BOYO - ATTICS
BOYO and indie music go hand in hand, I can't bring up indie music without hearing Robert Tilden's name and rightfully so. He is incredibly talented. This month he released a new album Dance Alone which is a beautiful introspective soundtrack to existing through the discord between the outside world and your internal landscape, all with a delicate self-awareness. This is an album you want to listen to the whole way through. The music video for Attics is hilarious and is so wonderfully put together it is definitely worth a watch.
2. ANEMONE - SHE'S THE ONE
Sweet dreamy vocals over a steady drum and bassline. Subtle builds that fall and seem to catch themselves. This song is the definition of chill. I would say this track is the easiest to listen to on this list.
3. THE ORIELLES - BOBBI'S SECOND WORLD
I can't listen to this song and not smile. Call and response style lyrics gliding over the music, whoops and hollers, random instruments coming out of every corner painting colors all over the track. It is hard not to appreciate the playfulness The Orielles share with this one, so fun!
4. WALT DISCO- DROWNING IN YOUR VELVET BED
Are you looking to get some good headbanging in? Walt Disco makes you want to feel music in your bones with this track. The theatrical vocals and big amp feedback in this song make you want to shake and run around and dance fearlessly until the track slows down and hypnotizes you as a snake charmer would a python, that is until the beat picks back up and you lose it all over again.
5. WASUREMONO - LONELY TYPE
I love this song for many reasons. Steady beat, great bassline, it is a fun song to stride down the street to. However, my favorite part of this song has to be the layers of vocals throughout the entire track, in a way they turn the song into an oxymoron. All the lonely voices singing together "I'm a lonely type, I've been talking to myself".
6. OKEY DOKEY - THREW MY LOVE AWAY
This is one of my favorites from November. Okey Dokey gives us a hint at what is to come with their next album with this vibey song about love.
7. BEACHTAPE - FIGURE IT OUT
There is so much great indie music coming out of the UK and Beachtape is a great example of this. This song takes me back to being a young teenager driving out to the city to go see my favorite bands in tiny venues. That to me is the epitome of the indie rock experience.
8. WORN-TIN - CHARTREUSE
I can't get enough of Worn-Tin right now. His lyrics are wonderful abstract poems I like to read over and over and each time I uncover a new potential meaning. This song, in my experience of it, expresses the type of admiration and love you can only feel for someone that you know really well but with the realization that when you are that close, you also see all of their faults. I love the instrumental intro here, kind of like an appetizer that opens you up to the rest of the track. Warner Hyatt records each instrument himself and when I listen to his music I like to imagine a room full of Warner clones playing each instrument like a full band.
9. ARTHUR - IVY LEAGUE
Welcome to Arthur's crazy wacky world. Arthur creates a visual landscape with his music. His music feels like an emotion, location, and dream sequence all in one. It is playful, colorful and weirdly attractive.
10. SWIMM - WEEKEND
Another release by Swimm this month, hell yeah! You can get lost in this one with its whiny guitar and build into psych-pop glory.
11. STILL PARADE - CIRCLE SONG
This song makes it hard to not want to lay back and daydream. Musically this song is the exact feeling of laying on a hammock in paradise watching the sunset.
12. MIKEY MIKE - COOLER
Chances are if you live in Los Angeles you have seen a billboard of Mikey Mike. He is more than a musician, he is a friend to all. He is soulful, unusual and you can't help but be drawn to his friendliness and eccentricity. This month he released his 3 song EP Life on Earth that gives us a hint of what music is to come when he releases his full album.
13. THE UNDERCOVER DREAM LOVERS- RIGHT NOW
Certain songs capture your attention and keep it. This is one of those songs that if you heard in passing you would stop your conversation to listen, maybe asking the bartender "what song is this?". I love how this song builds into a funky upbeat chorus and keeps you begging for more.
14. ARCTIC MONKEYS- ANYWAYS
If there is anything to be thankful for this month, it is this B-side track released by Arctic Monkeys off of Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. Do you ever wish an album wouldn't end? Do you ever wish for just one more song, maybe even two? Your wish just came true.
15. WWOMAN- YOU WILL FILL MY HEAD
I have never heard of Wwomen until I stumbled across them this month and after just one listen to this song, I have become a definite fan. The vocals are so sexy in a modern "Bee Gees" kind of way. The music is dreamy but still has the perfect amount of bounce to it. Prepare to continuously press repeat.
