Earlier this year, we premiered a large techno stomper from rising talent Billy Turner on Adam Beyer's vinyl-only Drumcode LTD imprint. Today, Billy is back with more heat in the form of Fingers Crossed; a more subdued, but equally as driving track. Part of his new 4-track EP 'Approaching Land', out on Anja Schneider's Sous Music, the track has a distinctly underground and urgent feel, a nice touch compared to the big room sound much of today's mainstream techno has taken. To get a bit more info on the release, we caught up with Billy, to get a bit more insight into his EP and current happenings.

BT PRESS MARCH 2018-3

Q1. After your remix for Anja earlier this year, ‘Approaching Land’ is your first full release on Sous Music - how did she discover you?

Anja first discovered me through my releases at the end of 2017 on Turbo recordings & Kneaded Pains! Her management then contacted me earlier this year with the remix request for a track of my choice from her album SoMe, and 'Shadows' really spoke to me, it's such an emotional piece. I caught her ear more when she heard my take on it, and it's just gone from there!

Q2. How would you describe this EP to a new listener of your music?

The concept of this EP is an adventure through an unknown land & trying to make it back home, with tribal textures & an organic feel, but also electricity running through. It's open to interpretation, but that's what it says to me! It's a selection of club tracks, an intro, 2 tracks I play during opening sets & a peak time one called 'Fingers Crossed'.

Q3. Let's talk about the process for this EP. What were the main tools you were using? Did anything new in your studio make it on the EP?

I used the Maschine Studio, a bunch of samples and some basic plugins, the same process I use for all of my tracks. Also, on 'Singular' & 'Fingers Crossed' I used the Arturia Minibrute.

Q4. You are also a regular on Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains imprint, and played their showcase at Ampere on the 30th November, followed by their big show at Toffler in Rotterdam on the 15th December - will you be releasing again on Kneaded Pains?

For sure! Expect something in the first half of 2019!

Q5. What else have you coming up you can share with us for 2019? Any New Years resolutions?

I have a remix for Vinicius Honorio in January on a package with Fiedel & Alex Bau! I'm also working on something for Luke Slater's Mote-Evolver, and an EP on Kneaded Pains after that. Keep an eye out on my socials for updates :)
