Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have linked up again on the score for Netflix’s hit film Bird Box. The score has been released to purchase in “high resolution” according to Reznor in a note on the Nine Inch Nails website. It will be released on streaming services about January 25.
They have released an abridged version of “Outside,” which appears on the score. It is an eerie, piano-driven track with slight distortion and white noise echoing in the background.
The pair made tons of music for the film and a lot of it didn’t end up being included in the score. These songs serve both as the score and can act as a standalone album.
“We aim for these to play like albums that take you on a journey and can exist as companion pieces to the films and as their own separate works,” says Reznor on the NIN website.
A more expansive score (read “more self-indulgent” according to Reznor) will be released sometime in the spring in a physical format with an extra hour of music and new artwork. Until then, pick up your Bird Box soundtrack, watch the move again and listen to "Outside."
