It's crazy to think that we are already a week into February already but if there is one thing I can say about music, it's that it never slows down for anyone or anything. 2019 has already been very good to hip-hop fans and we have the 15 best tracks that dropped in January for your listening pleasure. So without further adieu, let's get on with the chart!
1. Future - Crushed Up
Future wasted no time dropping a project in 2019. His album The Wizrd shot all the way to number one on the Billboard charts (his 7th no. 1) and the lead single "Crushed Up" already has millions of streams across all platforms.
2. Key! - Peppermint
After really getting into his music in 2018, it's great to see that Key! is already building momentum in the new year with his latest track "Peppermint". Check out the TreezLowkey produced joint below.
3. Gesaffelstein - Lost in the Fire (feat. The Weeknd)
This is about as big as it gets for me as Gesaffelstein has been one of my favorite electronic producers for a very long time. Now the French producer is back with the Weekend for "Lost In The Fire" and fans of both artists are surely loving what they hear.
4. Masta Ace feat. Evidence - Eat (prod. by Dj Premier)
I mean I don't really need to explain anything for this one. Three of my favorites all together on one track could only mean that you are in for a treat. Premo on the beat = $$$$ forever. Also I know this is a radio rip but it's all that remains on the net at the moment. This will be on Masta Ace's new album, which better be dropping later this year.
5. YNW Melly feat Kanye West - Mixed Personalities
There is a ton of hype behind YNW Melly right now. A lot of people believe that 2019 will be his year and if Kanye is already collabing with him (we all know Kanye needs that fresh blood to keep him going) then that hype might be legit. While this track isn't as hot as "Murder On My Mind," it's still an interesting listen none the less and I actually enjoy Kanye's bars. Check out YNW Melly's new album We All Shine on Spotify here.
6. Lou The Human - Make You Sick
Lou is back with more of that gritty sound that I just personally can't get enough of. Look out for more big tracks from the kid in 2019. You'll be able to find them in my charts for sure.
7. J. Cole - Middle Child
J. Cole is slowly becoming one of my favorite rappers period. I wasn't always able to get into his tracks because sometimes I feel like he focused too much on his message and not enough on his vibe. However, it seems like as he continues to progress as an artist, the two pieces are really coming together in all the best ways. His new track "Middle Child" which should be on the next installment of his label Dreamville Revenge of The Dreamers series hit home especially close to me as I too am a middle child.
8. Maxo Kream - Meet Again
Maxo Kream makes his chart debut with his latest offering "Meet Again." After seeing this guy rip the mic at a warehouse party in LA a few years back, I knew he would be doing big things soon enough. Keep an ear out for this guy as he's setting himself up to have a huge year.
9. Goldlink - Got Muscle (feat. Peewee Longway & WaveIQ)
Goldlink's flow is just so easy to listen to. This is the kind of song I would bump while driving around town as it just has that easy-flow vibe that I personally love.
10. Blu & Oh No - The Lost Angels Anthem
2007 Ben would be FREAKING out for this track. While times may have changed a bit, these two still make quality hip-hop music that deserves your attention. The two LA standouts will be dropping an entire project this year so stay tuned for more!
11. Blockhead - Kiss The Cook Ft. Aesop Rock
I have always been a HUGE fan of Blockhead's production and to see him and Aesop Rock on a track in 2019 just makes my old soul feel alive again. Check out Blockhead's new album Free Sweatpants in its entirety here.
12. Noname - Song 31
Noname's effortless sounding flow shines on her latest track "Song 31". If you have not gotten into her yet then I suggest you start with her 2018 album Room 25 which you can find here.
14. James Blake - Mile High (feat. Travis Scott & Metro Boomin)
By far my favorite track of the month. This song is incredible and I expect nothing less from James Blake and Travis Scott. I also love seeing Metro Boomin trying out some different vibes as well. You can read our full review of his album Assume Form here.
15. Casey Veggies & Rockie Fresh "Demeanor" (feat. Curren$y) (prod. Leken Taylor & Ashton Mccreight)
Closing out the chart this month, Casey Veggies and Rockie Fresh join forces on "Demeanor" which is the first track on Casey's #FreshVeggies2 which will be dropping later this year.
