R. Kelly

This is the greatest song on New Music Friday. R. Kelly has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse. A Chicago judge has issued a no-bail arrest warrant for Kelly. The warrant doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t be granted bail after a hearing according to the AP.

The charges listed four victims, including at least three ages 13-17 with the abuse dating all the way back to 1998. The abuse in the documents is as recent as 2010, but victims in documentaries and press reports have come out to say this has continued more recently.

R. Kelly will appear Saturday in court for bond. Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx announced the charges and said each charge carried a sentencing range of up to seven years in prison.

Kelly has faced reports of sexual abuse of minors for decades going back to the 1990s, marrying Aliyah when she was 15 years old. He knew she was 15. He was acquitted of sexual pornography charges in 2008 after a video surfaced of him allegedly having sex with an underage girl.

This time around there seems to be a larger, more coordinated investigation. According to the New Yorker, the IRS, Homeland and FBI are investigating and are allegedly in possession of a sex tape of him with an underage girl. This has led to a second grand jury in New York convened by the Southern District Of New York. Kelly’s former accountant and manager have had to testify in these investigations.

Hopefully the only remix we get this time is the remix to conviction, fresh into prison.
