Record Store Day is coming on April 13 and the celebration of physical music has released its list of music on sale this spring, including its litany of exclusives. Pearl Jam are the ambassadors this year and they will kick things off by releasing their live performance at Seattle’s Easy Street Records in 2005 will be released on vinyl for the first time with only 6,000 copies being made.
Prince will get two releases this year. His Majesty’s Pop Life/The Purple Mix Club will see a vinyl release and the sought after rare cassette for The VERSACE Experience: PRELUDE 2 GOLD, will be released commercially for the first time after it was given out at the 1995 Paris Fashion Week show.
There are a slew of covers and collaborations on sale during Record Store Day. Red Hot Chili Peppers members Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer have teamed up to cover two T. Rex songs, “Jeepster” and “Monolith.”
Erykah Badu and James Poyser have teamed up to cover Squeeze’s signature single “Tempted.” Mastodon will cover Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” as an ode to their late manager Nick John, dubbing the cover “Stairway to Nick John.”
Anderson .Paak and Busta Rhymes collab on a song as well.
There will be a slew of 3” vinyl releases including a bunch from Third Man Records with music by The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather, and Jack White solo.
Others who will have releases include Steve Earle, Pink Floyd, Elton John, Joe Strummer, U2, Gorillaz, The Rolling Stones, Devo, Aretha Franklin and Charlie Parker.
