Keith Flint, lead singer of The Prodigy, has died at the age of 49. The band has confirmed the news this morning.
In a statement on Instagram, the group says that he died by suicide.
“A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed,” they say on Twitter.
Keith Charles Flint was born on September 17, 1969 in East London. He moved to Braintree, Essex as a child where he met Liam Howlett in a club.
They would form The Prodigy with Maxim and became a voice for a jilted generation, channelling the anger of a youth at a system that seemed to be pitted against them into a new sound that combined punk, rock and electronic music in a totally new way. They were and still are revolutionaries, selling tens of millions of albums and playing every big venue there is.
Tributes have poured in from all across music by those who have been inevitably touched and impacted by Keith and The Prodigy’s music.
