For many of you, the name OGIO brings back memories of some of the first camera or action sports/lifestyle bags you ever owned. They were a category leader for a long time and then quietly slipped away as the bag space became more crowded and cut-throat.
The good news is that they are back with the core ideals that made them so great, to begin with, functionality and durability.
We got a chance to meet up with the OGIO team at Outdoor Retailer back in January and recently got our hands on their full sizer, the Alpha Convoy 526S - the biggest bag in the Convoy fleet - check the other sizes here.
We are not fans of checking luggage, but when you have to make a long haul sometimes there is just no way around it, and the Alpha Convoy [AC] is up for the task.
Tough as nails. The AC is built with CORDURA Eco fabric which is not only extremely durable but is made from recycled materials. It also has YKK hardware and rock-solid construction to take the abuse of airport roadies who often "do not" handle with care.
Customize it. The AC can be modified in several different ways to fit your packing style and works seamlessly with the MOD Storage System that operates across the Convoy line. You can also choose between a single large volume or divided packing space to suit your needs. Hopefully, they will be making some compression bags soon as they expand out the MOD system.
Quiet as a Tesla. The four-wheel 360 Hinomoto casters roll like butter across most surfaces and can be used in a four wheel or two wheel angle with ease.
After a road test from Miami to New Orleans, we are sold on AC in a big way. It's light at 8.8 pounds so you if you are clever you can get a two to three-week trip packed in there easily and stay under the weight limit of most commercial airlines. The price point may seem steep at $379.99, but this bag will last you a long time and is worth every shekel.
