The various touches

Apple is hoping that a new revival of a classic will help its slowing sales (still a fucking a lot) of phones and pocket devices. They have announced the first update to the iPod touch since 2015 with a trio of new products. The new iPod touch comes with the A10 Fusion chip, which improves performance for games, while also allowing for augmented reality (AR) and Group FaceTime.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing says the new iPod will be “twice as fast” as the prior devices. The touch looks like previous versions with a home button and a four-inch display. The iPod touch is available in six finishes; space gray, white, gold, blue, pink and (PRODUCT)RED.

The price varies on how much storage you get. Prices start at $199 for the 32GB model, $299 for the 128GB model and $399 for the 256GB model, which is the largest they have made.

The new iPod’s can be purchased on Apple’s website and later this week in stores.

Obviously the question is why? If you want just a music player and have a work phone, this could be useful with the 256gb model or it could be for children to play music and games. It is much cheaper than an iPhone, but still it is hard to see this becoming a massive hit in the current market. Maybe Apple could just make a cheaper phone? Or add the four buttons and click wheel? I will find the person who stole mine one of these days...
