Moby & Natalie Portman Are Beefing Over Whether Or Not They Dated Because Nothing Makes Sense Anymore

Moby says so in his new memoir 'Then It Fell Apart,' but Portman disagrees.

There are a lot of strange celebrity beefs that could have happened today, but not in a million years would you expect this one. Moby and Natalie Portman are going after each other online over the assertion that they dated years ago.

It all started with Moby’s new memoir, Then It Fell Apart that has a load of juicy stories and gossip. He talks about feuding with Eminem, attempting to date Lizzy Grant before she became Lana Del Ray, supposedly dating Natalie Portman and more.

However in a new interview with Harpers Bazaar, Portman refuted that a sexual relationship ever happened and called Moby “creepy.” Moby is 16 years older than her.

“I was surprised to hear that he characterized the very short time that I knew him as dating because my recollection is a much older man being creepy with me when I just had graduated high school,” Portman said. “He said I was 20; I definitely wasn’t. I was a teenager. I had just turned 18. There was no fact checking from him or his publisher – it almost feels deliberate. That he used this story to sell his book was very disturbing to me. It wasn’t the case. There are many factual errors and inventions. I would have liked him or his publisher to reach out to fact check.”

She says it was just a friendly relationship until she cut it off because he was looking for something more.

“I was a fan and went to one of his shows when I had just graduated,” she continued. “When we met after the show, he said, ‘let’s be friends.’ He was on tour and I was working, shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realized that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate.”

In the book, Moby says that they met backstage at a concert in Austin in 1999 and he felt there was something more.

“We had just finished a show in Austin, playing to four hundred and fifty people at a venue that held five hundred. I walked to the backstage door, sure that this was a misunderstanding or a joke, but there was Natalie Portman, patiently waiting,” he recounts. “She gazed up at me with black eyes and said, ‘Hi.’ I was a bald binge drinker who lived in an apartment that smelled like mildew and old bricks, and Natalie Portman was a beautiful movie star. But here she was in my dressing room, flirting with me.”

According to EW, which published the excerpt, Moby went to the 1999 MTV Music Awards the next week and met with Portman there. We looked in various photo archives and confirm they were both at the show. They went to several after parties according to Moby, including the official one at the Hudson Hotel where Moby met Joe Perry and Steven Tyler.

He also describes traveling to visit Portman at Harvard. “At midnight she brought me to her dorm room and we lay down next to each other on her small bed,” Moby writes via Consequence of Sound. “After she fell asleep I carefully extracted myself from her arms and took a taxi back to my hotel.”

Mody has responded in kind, saying he is confused by her stance.

This is weird.
