Over the last decade, Eastern Europe has had a massive boom in tourist activity, and become a major party destination. As a result, many clubs and festivals have popped up and seen their fair share of success. Lovefest is one such event and has become one of Eastern Europe's leading festivals for many reasons. With amazing backdrops, huge lineups, and overall high-quality experiences, it's easy to see how and why that happened. And while the festival itself is a reason to visit, there is so much more to explore in the country. We weren't exactly sure where to start, so we asked Lovefest for a few suggestions before the festivities kick off August 1-3.
What's the music scene like in Serbia? What genres are most popular?
The festival scene in Serbia became really rich and wide during the past years, really open to a lot of different electronic genres even though it is, comparing to other, very small. We have a few electronic festivals, a lot of famous underground clubs that are recognized and famous in Europe. Every month we have one or two worldwide known names coming here and playing in places for 10.000 people or more. So, for a small territory located in Balkans, our scene is really alive. Lovefest, among many others, contributed to educating people about the electronic scene in the best quality way possible by organizing quite a few events during every year in the state capital.
Where are the best festivals and parties in Serbia?
Since Belgrade is the biggest city in the country and the majority of the people live in it, definitely the most parties during the year happened there. As I said, Lovefest has few major music events during the year being organized in Belgrade. We follow two different concepts - artists that already played at the festival that the crowd was wild about, and the other is one that introduces completely fresh faces to the scene in Serbia thus continuing to educate people about quality music.
Where are the best places to head for a long weekend?
Well, that's definitely Vrnjacka Banja and for sure Lovefest! From August 1st till August 3rd, a lot of big music names are coming here, and if you are into this music – this is your place to be. When you Google it, you'll see that everything is located in one small place. But, when you come here you'll discover the magical place, with a lot of green trees, parks, smiling people and really good energy.
I am proud, that over a decade now the Festival has become really famous among DJs not just for gigs, but for the location itself. So I will be more than happy to see you all here on the first weekend in August.
What should be top of our list of dishes to try? Any local drinks we have to have?
Like every other country, our country has a lot of unique national drinks and dishes that you need to try! But all of them have one thing in common – when you taste it, you would like to eat it over and over and forever. When it comes to recommendations, on the top of the list should be something that we call cevapi – a dish made from minced meat, a lot of jams and sauces also. Must try drink is Rakija. It's often described as Serbian Brandy. It can be made from various types of fruit, honey and etc. Very strong, but also a good starter for a three-night festival – Lovefest artists can confirm that.
If there's one fact we should know about Serbia what should it be?
Friendly people, good food & great music… Well, there are really a lot of facts that you should know about Serbia. It is a territory with a rich history, amazing places, but the most important thing is people, for sure. Hospitality is always our top priority and we enjoy it. We really like to share incites of our culture, food, beverages, nightlife and etc. After experiencing Serbia, you will definitely come back home with a lot of good memories and new friendships.
