808 State have released their second EP ahead of an album later this year. The new EP Subsequent Granada Report follows Granada Report as they put out music in bunches before the new album Transmission Suite. The EP contains two tracks from the LP and two brand new ones.
The larger theme of the album is its location in the old Granada studios which were used for filming TV performances and radio. They capture that in this EP, using vocal samples made to sound like an old radio recording. This is mixed with ricocheting percussion, metallic industrial beats and a dash of acid sprinkled into the mix. “Spiral Arms” switches things up with an unnamed female vocalist with, eerie fx and a blend of house and techno.
In addition to the new EP, 808 State have announced two different listening sessions in Manchester. The first at 4:30 is being dubbed a “micro-rave” at Picadilly Records where they will play and sign records. Then at 6pm, they head down the street to 33 Oldham Street’s listening lounge for a more relaxed album playback with a Q&A after. Tickets for these events can be found here.
