Four Tet has released the EP Anna Painting that was previously made exclusively available just on vinyl. The three-track project is comprised of music Four Tet composed for his friend and painter Anna Liber Lewis, who put on an exhibit, Muscle Memory, at London’s Elephant West gallery earlier this year.

The music was done collaboratively over several months.

"The collaboration unfolded over several months. We worked in tandem from conversation and correspondence,” explains Four Tet on his Bandcamp. "I made music and Anna responded to it with drawings and paintings, apart from the last track, which I made after having seen her work.”

The EP starts out with the title track “Anna Painting,” which focuses on a bouquet of shimmering harps, guitar, mandolin, violin and other strings in a free-flowing and soothing record.

The second song “Lahaina Noon" is the most upbeat and danceable and comes with an interesting twist. It seems to stop multiple times only to continue the drum loop that was playing. Have patience with this one as it can throw you off before it eventually adds more elements at the end.

The final track “Breath” is even more ambient that the first, slowly breathing new life into soft pads and shimmering synths.

Four Tet has had a great year of new music and this caps off his summer with music for home listening.
