Well, we knew it would happen, but summer is officially ending. School is in session, no more trips to the lake, ocean or pool, and you are shopping for warmer clothes, but that doesn't mean you have to stop dancing! As always, remember these are in no particular order. I loved them all!
1. Funk LeBlanc - Real Love feat. Holland Greco (Televisor Remix)
That bass tho! "Real Love" has gotten the royal treatment with this remix by Televisor. Holland Greco's vocals are sweet like honey, and the groove in this song is just as smooth. Wait for it at 3:27, there is a killer sax breakdown that brings this jam to the finish line. Funk LeBlanc and Televisor are having a true bromance right now, and we thank them for this little baby.
2. Chaka Khan - Feel For U (Dr Packer Rework)
So, Prince originally wrote and recorded this classic track, but I am sure that most people know the Chaka Khan version. Dr Packer has taken that version and smoothed out the edges a little and made it perfect for a modern dancefloor. Say yeah indeed!
3. Thomas Tonfeld - Dreamin'
Sunnies on, cocktail close by, pool float available, and this song. Between the jazz flute and the background ocean sounds, "Dreamin'" is the stuff that summer dreams are made of. This is a re-release, but when the song is this good, it deserves a new audience.
4. Sune - That One Day While Couch Surfin'
Sune is back with the slow-burning "That One Day While Couch Surfin." Full of gentle strings, the 1:30 mark brings on the groove. This track is not a dancefloor filler, but rather the song you want to hear after a long night and you just want to chill without losing the vibe from the night before.
5. Sweetooth - Soul Singing
Sweetooth is back with something a little more mellow to help you finish out your summer with those sweet, sweet '70s grooves. A fantastic nod to the Commodores, Earth, Wind & Fire, Chaka Khan and a tribe of others, "Soul Singing" is a welcome departure from Sweetooth's typical more upbeat tracks.
6. Love Deluxe - Souvenir feat. Dip In The Pool
Love Deluxe is here to bring us a pure Nu-Disco goodness with "Souvenir." Japanese band Dip In The Pool adds their excellent vocals to this funky little gem. This track is full of catchy rhythm guitar and synth-driven bass lines. This is the B-side from the Fata Morgana EP. Take a moment to check out what Love Deluxe has to offer.
7. Shit Hot Soundsystem - Oh My My
"Oh My My" how does Shit Hot Soundsystem keep coming up with these amazing grooves!? Another B-side track, the bass line alone will make you dance, whether you are on the dancefloor or not! With just enough synthy strings and horns, you won't want the summer or this song to end!
8. LUXXURY & Scavenger Hunt - Another Lifetime (Future Disco Slow Down Edit)
I'll take a Sex On The Beach, please. Oh wait, this song is already that. Future Disco's remix of "Another Lifetime" is sexy and adds a little sad at the same time. A song is essentially about a missed connection, where fantasy takes on a life of its own, LUXXURY and Scavenger Hunt makes us long for summer to come back, even though it isn't quite over yet. Look for this on the upcoming Poolside Sounds EP.
9. Moon Boots - Juanita feat. Kaleena Zanders
Moon Boots is an absolute favorite at Magnetic Magazine, and teaser track "Juanita" only added to the excitement for the release of Pete Dougherty's second LP Bimini Road on September 6th. "Juanita" featuring the fantastic, soulful vocals of Kaleena Zanders is a fine Disco/Funk track, and is a sure-fire party starter!
10. C. Da Afro - What The Funk
"What The Funk" is a brilliantly funky track by C. Da Afro that has been included on the first compilation by Disco Fruit Records. This track is packed with pumping bass lines, strings, spacey synths and everything you want in a disco record. The entire Cherry On Top EP is full of some of the best disco artists out there right now, so go get it now!
11. La Felix - Too Many Lies (LEFTI Remix)
LEFTI's remix of "Too Many Lies" adds just enough nu-disco flair to La Felix's original track to get you movin' and groovin'. This remix adds a funky conga beat, more synths, deep bass jams and hot rhythm guitar riffs, and all of that adds up to a perfect summer jam.
12. Rojai - Just A Lil Bit feat. B. Bravo
San Francisco based Rojai aka Jairo Vargas is bringing more funk than I can handle with his first full-length release on Austin Boogie Crew Records. Every track is smooth & funky, with plenty of guest vocals to keep each track interesting. "Just A Lil Bit" had that little bit of extra, with steamy vocals, plucky rhythm guitars, retro synths, and serious breakdown at 1:40 to bring the heat level to pure fire! With some serious nods to Prince, Chromeo, and Tuxedo most recently, take some time to listen to Strut Down in its entirety.
13. Kapote - Delirio Italiano (Dub)
Label Toy Tonics just keeps knocking it out of the park with their releases this summer! A late-season entry, Kapote's dub version of "Delirio Italiano" is no exception. The vocals have been minimized here, leaving you with all of the funky bass, spacey synths, and disco/funk goodness to keep your body moving all night.
14. Setenta - Boys And Girls (Mochi Men Remix)
The Mochi Men (aka Young Pulse & ATN) are making a real splash with their remix of the classic Setenta track "Boys and Girls." The tempo is increased just enough here to take nothing away from the funkiness of the original but adds just the right disco shine to the track. I can't wait to see what this production duo have waiting up their sleeves!
15. Kraak & Smaak - Don’t Want This to Be Over feat. Satchmode
If "Don't Want This To Be Over" is any indication of how amazing Kraak & Smaak's new LP is going to be, the wait will have been completely worth it! Satchmode lends his sexy vocals to this '70s AOR vibe track, and while it has a very end of summer feeling to it, that's perfect as summer parties, margaritas and sunscreen turn into pumpkin spice everything.
