Flux Group, a rising startup from Australia, has made waves in the tech industry by launching its latest innovation, the Flux Keyboard. This keyboard boasts a combination of a mechanical keyboard’s speed and precision with an embedded display’s adaptability. The company set a Kickstarter goal of AU$200,000, fully funded in a record-breaking 8 minutes, reaching AU$1 million just 4 hours later.
The Flux Keyboard is available for pre-order on Kickstarter, at a Kickstarter special price of $349 USD/$525 AUD.
One of the standout features of the Flux Keyboard is its adaptive display. This unique feature allows users to display any icon or character they desire on each transparent key, making it easy to switch between languages, application-specific shortcuts, and styles. The display can even show images, videos, or reactive animations as a background, thanks to its full high-definition IPS display. According to Sebastian Darmasetiawan, the Founder and CEO of Flux Group, the goal of the keyboard is to make keyboard shortcuts evident and accessible, thus unlocking efficiency in any task, whether for work or play. Darmasetiawan also believes that the Flux Keyboard can greatly accelerate learning new software.
This song is all over the place in the best way possible. From the slow build up into Jim James’ intense vocals to an extended guitar solo and the ominous sax at the very end, it’s an emotional ride that will make me stop whatever I’m doing and just listen.
If you’re in need of a soundtrack for some monumental discovery or personal awakening, Nils Frahm has you covered. If you’re given the opportunity, go see him play live or at least watch some videos of him masterfully jumping between pianos, synths and even toilet brushes.
Yes, toilet brushes.
Another unique feature of the Flux Keyboard is its use of Flux’s Maglev switches, which rely on magnets alone to provide the return mechanism. This results in ultra-low friction operation, providing users with a tactile or linear feel. Thanks to the Flux Keyboard’s hall effect sensors, each key also has a user-adjustable actuation point, allowing for up to 0.1mm of precision. These sensors are ideal for gamers and provide the keyboard with a polling rate of 1,000hz, a response time of 1-2 milliseconds, and rapid-trigger functionality.
In addition to its unique display and key switches, the Flux Keyboard also features interchangeable modules. These modules can be added or removed along the top length of the keyboard, providing users with additional customisability and tactile ways to interact with their desired applications and streamline workflows. These modules include the Triple Key Module, which features three extra customizable keys; the Side Dial Module, which features one large dial and a rocker switch; the Triple Dial Module, which features three dials surrounded by a display; and the Passive Module, which features a window to view information on the display.
