The Denver music scene is a tight-knit community, and the hotly-tipped trip-hop duo Since JulEYE reflect that camaraderie. Shattering genre confines with their uniquely-blended sonic stylings, Since JulEYE was born out of shared musical tastes and Denver’s warm, inclusive artistic identity.

After initially starting as a solo project by DJ/producer Lev Averbakh, Since JulEYE recently added long-time collaborator and veteran keyboardist Todd Stoops (RAQ, Kung-Fu) as a permanent member. This new creative partnership has resulted in a vibrant mix of Averbakh’s bouncy hip-hop production with Stoops’ jam band sensibilities – a dynamic combination that has led to performances at Summer Camp Music Festival, Gem & Jam, Color Field, and Wavespell, where they’ve displayed their electric live sets.

Now, Since JulEYE releases their debut album, The Dawn Of Since, a full-length project that showcases its artists’ singularly aligned musical intuition. The LP consists of songs from when the two artists first started making music together, and boasts a title that appropriately evokes the duo’s origins. But the album is more than a time capsule of the group’s beginning work: it also reflects Since JulEYE’s ongoing evolution, tracing the lineage from their early sonic explorations into future material.

Listeners got their first taste of The Dawn Of Since with the LP’s lead single, “On The Scene,” a hazy, laid-back cut featuring Lettuce trumpeter and Denver hometown legend Eric “Benny” Bloom. “On The Scene” was the first track Averbakh and Stoops began together, and exemplifies how naturally their individual styles coalesce. The track was also released alongside a collaborative video with Microdose VR, a software that combines art, music, and dance into a real-time virtual experience.

Next was “Fly Away,” a psychedelic, hip-hop-infused bass track featuring rapper/visual artist ProbCause and Emancipator/Manic Focus drummer Colby Buckler.

The Dawn Of Since is full of similarly inventive, genre-bending tracks. “Slammer,” for example, a song with Michal Menert (formerly of Pretty Lights) and turntablist Brisco Jones, combines buttery rapping with ear-grabbing record scratching, industrial beats, and blazing, villainous synth chord progressions.

The album kicks off with the tone-setting “Great Time (Intro),” a smooth, atmospheric track with infectious basslines. Then there’s “The Darkness,” a collaboration with Denver rapper Looney Ando. Replete with lo-fi hip-hop beats, enchanting organs, and trunk-rattling low end underlying Looney Ando’s biting delivery and lyricism, “The Darkness” is a raw, gritty experience.

Going along the tracklist, listeners can also find “Everything Changes,” a galactic electronic cut with producer/multi-instrumentalist Homemade Spaceship, and “Off White Flowers,” a cinematic track filled to the brim with pulsating breakbeats, sweeping guitar solos, and a futuristic presentation.

The Dawn Of Since is then rounded out by the jazzy, immaculately arranged “Weight Of The World” (a collaboration with Denver producer/DJ Mr. Bugatti and rapper Sarcastik) and album closer “C Ya,” which concludes the album with a swirling, psychedelic sendoff.

Since JulEYE recently showcased their live performance prowess on the lineup for VI Jam Fest, a festival in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and at Gem & Jam in Tucson, AZ.Yesterday, on Thursday, March 9, Since JulEYE brought a full live band to Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom Other Side for a special album release show. Joining Averbakh and Stoops on stage was turntablist Brisco Jones, Colby Buckler, and guitarist Homemade Spaceship, who came together and translated The Dawn of Since album into a transcendent live show experience.
