The upcoming album Emergency Leisure (set to release on August 2 under Escondido Sound) by The Bright Light Social Hour brings us their second single, Prefecture, a fusion of electro-soul and indie music. The band, consisting of Jackie O’Brien (bass/vocals), Curtis Roush (guitar/vocals), Mia Carruthers (keys/vocals), Zac Catanzaro (drums), and Juan Alfredo Ríos (percussion), has crafted an impressive and majestic single. In this 5-minute track, the energy builds up with soaring guitar solos, afro-inspired percussion, and epic synths that give a perfect finish to the composition.

The track has a unique meaning that follows an incredible redemption arc, as Jackie O’Brien explains, “‘Prefecture’ is the story of Jaycee, a fan who left her life in Utah—along with her marriage and the Mormon church—to join us on tour as a photographer, eventually becoming a dear friend and creating the art for the upcoming album. The first half reclaims autonomy from an oppressive religion or lover. The instrumental second half embodies the ecstatic lightness of newfound freedom, of finding God on the dance floor.”
The Bright Light Social Hour are quickly morphing into much more than a rock band, exploring new avenues, styles and inspirations with their music
