What makes Kontakt your favorite tool for producing?
Definitely the versatility of the plugin! It’s so cool that I can go from a good sounding acoustic instrument to an 80s type synth that are both equally good quality!
What sets Kontakt apart from other synthesizers in the market, and how does it benefit your workflow?
For me it’s definitely how realistic and live the live libraries sound. They have some of the best pianos and strings I’ve heard. They sound so real and not cheap like stock pianos or other synth based pianos I have used in the past.
What are your three favorite Kontakt libraries and why?
Exhale ~ This is one of my favorites! As it gets me inspired quickly and is a good song starter plugin for me! I can make cool vocal chop melodies quite simply and still be able to go very in depth if I choose to.
Hybrid Keys ~ I use this one a lot for my breaks in my song! It’s a very airy feel good library and I really enjoy creating new sounds inside of this one.
Analog Dreams ~ Lately, I have probably been using this one the most! I love using it for atmospheres and pad sounds in my tracks but also it has some very cool 80s bass sounds which I have utilized in my music.
Can you share a feature of Kontakt that you wish you had started using sooner in your career?
I wish I started using the drums feature earlier. I have gotten a really cool sound almost like melodic drum sounds using the kontakt drum libraries. I also like combining all of the middle eastern drum libraries to create more euphoric vibes.
Are there any limitations when using Kontakt? What strategies have you used to overcome those limitations?
There are some limitations. If I’m using the session guitarist library it can be difficult to edit the melody as they are samples. Therefore I work in audio and can then cut up the notes and transpose them to create new melodies.
How do you layer and blend sounds with Kontakt to create more intricate textures that are unique to you?
I do so many different things and don’t really have a set way I go about layering. I like to switch it up everytime. For example, sometimes I’ll start by adjusting the pans on certain libraries and then stack multiple instruments on top of each other and it will sound so interesting. There are endless possibilities when it comes to this.
