Irish DJ and producer, Ben Prophet, has made a striking landing in the underground music scene with his dark and exhilarating 4 track EP, “From Dusk”. Currently residing in the underground music hub of Newcastle, it comes as no surprise no surprise that Prophet’s EP has been released to the world via HAAi and Alice Pelly’s Radical New Theory label, known for showcasing emerging talents.
Staying distinctly true to himself, the gritty and energetic production on the EP channels Prophet’s love for bassline, electronica, and techno, whilst placing a key focus on mechanical vocals that add a mind-bending element that listeners can get lost in. It’s a project that’s no-apologies energy, with plenty of screw-face moments throughout.
The opening track, “Telepathy,” showcases Prophet’s mastery in crafting emphatic and hard-hitting techno, accentuated by manipulated spoken-word vocals. This unapologetic and powerful sound is further exemplified in “Down The Rabbit Hole”, where distorted vocals take center stage, offering an industrial twist on breakbeat. On the other side of the EP, “Ocarina” and the title track “From Dusk” take a different approach, infusing the dark energy with melodic elements that evoke a touch of psychedelia and deep emotion. It is evident that “From Dusk” offers something for everyone who appreciates club music and its various dimensions.
Speaking on the release, Prophet states, “HAAi has been one of the biggest inspirations for my sound, so to have become friends and to release my music on her label Radical New Theory is a massive moment for me. I’ve taken a different approach on each track, but each has my signature sound and is ready for the dance floor.”
