Perhaps two of the main future players in the progressive electronic scene of late, producers Coucheron and Pasha both have strong repertoires and solid performances in their own respective genres, capturing a unique assortment of audiences from across the globe.

Having just released their eagerly-awaited collaborative EP ‘G.O.L. II: This Time It’s Personal…’ via Toothfairy, featuring singles ‘No Love’ featuring Trip Carter and ‘Sugar Rush’, the duo delved into a variety of genres, including disco, dancehall, R&B and progressive electronica. The seven-track release explored both Coucheron and Pasha’s eclectic inspirations, using their collaborative G.O.L project to feature a range of original songs.

Speaking of the recently released EP, Coucheron said, “On GOL II we follow the same principle as on GOL I; energy infused with our live show in focus during the whole creation process. This time with a bit more confidence and focus. We feel like the sound turned out as something unique, even though our listeners probably heard some of our individual sounds in this project.”

In this exclusive playlist for Magnetic Magazine, the duo highlight and explain their top ten electronic influences for the EP.

VIRTUAL SELF – GHOST VOICES

“It’s been 6 years and it feels like this song came out yesterday! I freaked out on first listen, and it’s been a go-to inspiration on sooo many occasions ever since it came out. There’s a song on GOL II where I tried recreating a sound from here. Hehee.”

CLAMS CASINO – ALL NITE (INSTRUMENTAL)

“GOL II is mostly inspired by dance music from the darker side of the spectrum, less so by hip hop, but this one to me is a perfect hybrid of the two I think. THE BOUNCE!!!!! And that eerie bass sound that comes in every now and then. Classic.”

CHEE – VULTURES

“Chee’s mixes and attention to detail is incredible. If you don’t make a stanky face at this drop, we’re not friends!!!!!!”

DAFT PUNK – REVOLUTION 909

“Neither GOL I or II have been centered around a French house sound like my solo stuff is, but the habit of chopping samples a certain way is difficult to completely shake off. ‘My Friends’ and ‘Sugar Rush’”

RANDOMER – BRING

“In the darkest depths of my playlist you’ll find this song. Far from his most aggressive sounding songs, but it’s so eerie.”

SKRILLEX & NOISIA – SUPERSONIC (my existence)

“Skrillex & Noisia have, imo, the best drum game in ALL of electronic music, and this is a masterpiece! Love every second of this song. Both of these artists inspire me so much in everything I do (including the last drop of Gold Chain hehehee)”

FRED AGAIN – Baby again..

“It’s hard to overstate the influence Fred again.. has had on electronic music the past two years, and I’m no exception. My favourites of his changes from time to time but really loving this at the moment (And also kinda ‘Gold Chain’-y, no?)”

SAM GELLAITRY – DUO

“When my friend showed me this two years ago, in my head I went «there’s no point in making music after this». It’s the ultimate song I wish I had made the most. Crazy talented guy, but not afraid to keep it supergritty. I like.”

MURA MASA – LIVE LIKE WE’RE DANCING (WITH GEORGIA)

“Also a song I really wish I had made, production and sounds are amazing. Makes you want to throw a late summer party in a rich person’s garden somewhere”

WEEDMANE & SUICIDEYEAR – SUICIDE YEAR

“There’s a lot with the «phonk» sound that inspired us this time around, not just the ding-dong sound that’s everywhere on those haha. It’s gimmicky but you can’t deny that it slaps.”
