KOAN Sound, the vanguard electronic music duo, introduces their newest single, “Liquid Levity”, a unique fusion of palpable energy, enigmatic tones, and peaceful tranquility. This latest piece precedes their much-anticipated album, Led by Ancient Light, slated for a fall 2023 release, and marks a significant step in their creative evolution.
Comprising Will Weeks and Jim Bastow, KOAN Sound continually captivates audiences with their genre-bending sounds and complex rhythms. Their upcoming album breaks the mold as it marries a crafted narrative, organic instrumentation, and cinematic soundscapes into a harmonious sonic voyage. Reflecting the duo’s unique narrative approach, the album offers an immersive experience akin to traversing a remote desert planet inhabited by ancient beings.
“Liquid Levity” rides the wave of nostalgia and serenity, continuing the journey seeded by “Ascension,” the album’s inaugural track. The duo’s intricate interplay of cello and piano narrates the wisdom and raw power of the planet’s inhabitants, the ‘Ardor’.
The album was conceived in collaboration with esteemed audio engineer, Jim Barr, and recorded at the iconic Studio Bell, Home of the National Music Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The resulting masterpiece is KOAN Sound’s most ambitious project, reflecting their expansive creative vision.
Led by Ancient Light also sets itself apart by featuring a companion graphic novella and a forthcoming documentary, offering listeners a visual odyssey into their creative universe. Speaking on the project, the duo shares:

Raised in upstate New York, I was always a big fan of music but never really listened to electronic music. Within the first month of attending Florida State University and meeting some new friends, I was introduced to the rave scene. After seeing Ekali at my first show, I was instantly hooked. Since then, I have dived into every subgenre of electronic music, picked up DJing, and mixed for clubs and different entertainment events in Tallahassee. Once graduating with degrees in marketing and hospitality, I was hired for a sales position. However, I recently decided to leave my sales job to pursue my dream of working in the music industry. Currently, I run Magnetic Magazine's Melodic Techno Charts, along with my role as a PR and marketing specialist for different artists and labels. Some of my favorite artists are REZZ, Kyle Watson, TOBEHONEST, San Pacho, Josh Baker, HUGEL, ARTBAT, Vintage Culture, Ganja White Night, CamelPhat, Green Velvet, Jungle, Milky Chance, Paco Versailles, Franc Moody, and RÜFUS DU SOL. My favorite festivals are Hulaween (by far), EDC Orlando, and all the different venues during Miami Music Week. Outside of music, I love sports (especially hockey, soccer, tennis, basketball, and spike ball), going to the movies, working out, sushi, Chick-fil-A, food in general, and hanging with my dog Maui and my cat Loki.
