Since its launch in 2022, Volumo has stood out in the global electronic music scene, vowing to democratize the platform for emerging artists and labels who struggle to penetrate saturated markets such as Beatport and Traxsource. An estimated 10 million sound producers globally, with about a million producing professionally, are looking for effective, affordable promotional options within their existing stores, a demand that Volumo has sought to meet. The online music store integrates elements of a social network, including features that allow fans to follow their favorite artists and labels and adjust the pricing of a release, a feature unavailable on Beatport.

Among its innovative offerings, Volumo recently unveiled its concept of the DJ Charts option. This unique feature allows users to create their chart by registering on the site, building their favorite records collection, publishing it, and sharing the link to their chart on social media platforms or within the store. Oleksandr Dzyubenko, Volumo CEO, heralded this as a significant stride towards realizing their curated store concept. He adds, “The more charts there are on the site, the more likely it is for a genuinely cool release to find its audience.”

Critics have questioned the juxtaposition of Volumo’s curated store concept with its accessibility for young artists. However, co-founder Denys Borysov explains that this is achievable through flexibility and a focus on quality over quantity in sales. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the potential in artists with modest figures, arguing that an artist’s breakthrough often comes after their first track.

In addition to its unique offerings, Volumo has also introduced an exclusives section, providing a platform for sound producers to create exclusive tracks for its store. “The quality of the music itself is important to us,” explains Anton Severynenko, one of the co-founders. He adds that Volumo is not hunting for established artists with guaranteed sales, but rather supporting young artists or those in underground, niche genres.

Volumo’s unique approach to fostering and showcasing talent has expanded its catalog with music available exclusively on its site. This has attracted a community of DJs who prefer tech house, micro-house, and deep techno. However, Volumo now considers tracks in genres such as drum and bass, techno, indie dance, melodic, and organic house. The first exclusive releases, including those by Ruven Medici, Sony Synth, Skif Tafari, Dubphone, iO (Mulen), and Maldo, are now available on the website.

Volumo’s distinguishing features and initiatives demonstrate its commitment to carving a niche among industry titans like Beatport, Juno Downloads, and Bandcamp. Its focus on young and emerging talent, combined with a keen understanding of the industry’s intricacies, points to a promising future in a competitive market. Aspiring producers are encouraged to connect with Volumo via email for details on partnership terms. The platform is poised for a large-scale expansion of its exclusives section come September, promising regular updates.
