For us creative types, nights out on the town can feel pretty uninspiring. Whether it’s for a date or a get-together with friends, the options are often only:
- Go To A Bar
- Go To A Club
- Go To A Bar Or/And A Club
There really isn’t a lot in between. Apart from once in a blue moon, when you might decide to go watch a theatre show or eat at a nice restaurant – and then avoid checking your bank balance for about a month after.
But there is so much more on offer than that. If you live in or near a city, you’ve got a world of culture, creativity, and fun to explore. You don’t have to just go with the status quo every time you go out. Hitting the town red doesn’t mean visiting as many bars as possible, but getting as much out of the town as possible – and doing it with a flourish!
With this in mind, we’ve decided to get together five ideas for a night out on the town that hits a little different – something that can invigorate the mind and reignite the cultural senses. Sound a little pretentious? Good! We don’t care! Let’s get started…
Bend Your Mind At A Mentalist Show
One of the most exciting ways you can spend your evening is by going to a mentalist show to experience a performance that is as breathtaking as it is surprising. Provided you pick the right mind reading show, the performer will not stand there and claim they can “read minds”. The best mind readers will be pretty honest about their abilities and how they use a unique comprehension of the human mind to understand what the audience is thinking. If anything, this is an excellent way to watch a genius at work, which is always a pleasure!
Test Your Skills At A Board Game Cafe
After you do this, you might think about going to a bar to mull it over with your friends, but we urge you to relent! If you’re in a city, one of the big new trends is actually “board game cafes”, where you can play a range of games from Monopoly to Cluedo while enjoying a nice latte on the side. Just be warned, this isn’t good if you or your friends are competitive. That competitive nature gets increased tenfold when caffeine is involved!
Become Your Own DJ
We said this list would be unique, and we were being serious. This next idea is a little out there, but it can lead to an exciting and fun night out, especially for musically creative people. During this night out, we suggest exploring the aisles of as many record shops as you can find nearby. Look for your favorite music, buy a few dancey collections, and then head back to your place to give them a spin. This is a dance party with a difference – and way cheaper than going to a dance party in the town! Also, it’s a good way to massage your old-school, hipster ego!
Laugh The Night Away
There’s nothing better than going out with your friends if you haven’t seen them for a long time. Suddenly all of the old jokes are being rediscovered, and the laughter that follows feels louder than you’ve ever laughed in years. And we suggest adding to that laughter! Comedy clubs are always buzzing during city nights, and many of them can even be great venues to meet a few new people and get to know them – there’s no better way to break the ice than collapsing into someone in a fit of laughter!
See The Town!
Lastly, if you want a creative way to spend the evening, we suggest not pinpointing anywhere at all! Now, hold on, hear us out. One of the problems with going to a bar or a club is that you end up spending the whole night there and don’t really experience anything else. But if you’re going on a night out in a city – even if it is a city you are familiar with – there’s nothing better than using the opportunity to explore and see the place differently. This doesn’t mean you can’t stop off in bars or cafes, but try to make these visits short and instead use most of your time to take in the world around you, the architecture, the people, and enjoy it. Hey, if you want to be creative, you can even create a scavenger hunt that takes you through all the most scenic places. Just try not to get lost!
