Teaming up with Haus Of Panda, who some would describe as the “father of speed-house,” CHYL drops ‘Ignite,’ featuring vocals from singer-songwriter-producer MYLK. Accompanied with the speedy four-on-the-floors characteristic of house music, synths, risers, filters, and vocal FX build tons of tension, making the drop hit all that much harder.

The last few years have seen CHYL rising into the scene with her Formula 1-inspired aesthetic, which is also present in her music. Energetic basslines and adrenaline-pumping beats are her specialty, earning her track “Fool Me” a spot in Rocket League. She’s also played some of the most iconic festivals and venues recently, including HARD Summer, COUNTDOWN, and The Shrine, where she opened for Dr. Fresch.

Haus Of Panda has earned fans from some of the largest names in dance music, including Diplo, Tiësto, and Knife Party. Speeding up electro-house, he coined the term “speed-house,” which has now evolved into a whole new sub-genre of house music, even earning its own Beatport category.

Singer-songwriter-producer MYLK has been renowned for her versatility, even crafting vocals for Fortnite. On top of that, she’s done an official remix for League Of Legends Japan, and amassed millions of streams with her unique punchy, bubbly, and vibrant discography.

We had an opportunity to chat with CHYL and Haus of Panda, along with MYLK, in two exclusive interviews, so keep reading to hear more about the trio and how “Ignite” came to life!

Interview with CHYL & Haus of Panda

Magentic/Luka First off, CHYL, what made you pick CHYL as your artist name? I kind of draw parallels to the word ‘chill’ here but this track is everything but that!

CHYL My artist name actually came from my English name “Rachel”! I just cut it in half. I think it’s a cool juxtaposition because my music is not “chill” at all and it’s kind of funny.

Magnetic/Luka You’ve been at speed house for a while now and have had massive success with shows and music–where did the inspiration for this track come from?

CHYL It started from an initial basic idea with a piece of Splice vocal I found, then Panda and I further developed it into a speed house track that incorporated both of our styles.

Haus of Panda When CHYL sent me the first version of this, I instantly had an idea in mind. Started off by building off some of the sounds I’ve used in previous speed house tracks and an arrangement that could blend both our styles.

Magnetic/Luka Obviously this being a collaboration, there’s always two (or more) pieces to the puzzle. Can you tell me how the production collaboration started with two distinct artists, CHYL and Haus of Panda? I know you’ve wanted to collaborate with Haus of Panda and have finally gotten the chance!

CHYL This track is very special to me because I’ve always wanted to collaborate with the Speed House founder and pioneer Haus of Panda and my dear friend MYLK! It really showcases all three of our styles perfectly. I have been playing this track out in venues and it really goes off live. I’m really happy to see continued support from Monstercat on this genre!

Haus of Panda Glad we finally had time to make this happen! It’s been on both our minds for quite awhile now.

Magnetic/Luka What was the first time playing it (the track) live like?

CHYL The audience loved it! It was amazing to see how people jumped to the drops live.

Haus of Panda Definitely big reaction on this as soon as the drop hits.

Luka/Magnetic For Haus of Panda, you’re the founder of the global speed-house movement. How did you end up making speed house? Was it a task of just experimenting in your production, or did you have a moment where you were just like “I need to speed house music up” and if so, what was that moment like?

Haus of Panda The start of it was definitely early on in my producing career. I was making bass house at the time and had come across DJ Snake and Moksi’s track “Pigalle” which is at 135. This gave me an idea to try some of projects at 140 and up and instantly I fell in love with writing at 140-150 with four on the floor house drums.

Magnetic/Luka You’ve earned tons of support and recognition from Diplo and his Sirius XM radio show, Alan Walker, Tiësto, and others. Who would be your dream to collaborate with in the future?

Haus of Panda Right now my favorite producers at the moment are Space Laces and Knock2, so it would definitely be a dream to work with these top tier producers.

Interview with MYLK

Magnetic/Luka Being born in the UK, how did you get into J-pop/Kawaii music? I know the UK is largely known for pop and electronic music, particularly house and drum and bass, so I’m curious as to how that style of music came into your life.

MYLK Well being Japanese, I was raised in a Japanese family and grew up with some of its culture, so hearing Japanese songs growing up was pretty normal. I also grew up with some anime too and my guilty pleasure of magical girl anime probably became a huge inspiration to hearing a lot of “kawaii” music as well. In around the same timeline, I was also listening to UK garage/bassline as well – so those genres play a huge part in my childhood.

Magnetic/Luka You’ve worked on some massively successful projects–some of which have landed your vocals/productions in Rocket League, League of Legends Japan, and Fortnite. Do most of these songs start out as just another project or do you make it with the game environment in mind?

MYLK It depends on the project, some songs were just made and made it onto the game like Rocket League, others were specifically made for the game and the style they were after.

Magnetic/Luka Speaking of which, how do most of your other productions start?

MYLK Most of it starts with my vocals actually. I tend to hum something like a melody, then I create lyrics to follow the flow of it, then I guess after that it would be chords and beats. On some rare occasions, I just have a good lead hum so i’ll create it into a synth lead and create around it.

Magnetic/Luka How did you come to collaborate with CHYL and Haus of Panda?

MYLK CHYL actually started following me one day and we just sort of started talking and chatting away about life and music, I assume she may have found me through my sample packs on Splice. She didn’t even know I also produced music but learned about it later on and it’s always nice to know another fellow female music producer in the scene. She then introduced me to Haus of Panda once we got talking about working on a track together and the rest is history!

Magnetic/Luka Since I asked them, I figure it’s only right to ask you too–who would be your dream collaborator in the future?

MYLK In the J-pop scene, I would love to work with Kyary-pamyupamyu or M-Flo. In the UK Garage scene, I would love to work with Sharda whom I recently discovered.

Fans can catch CHYL live this year at Monstercat’s ADE Showcase at Melkweg, Hulaween, and on tour with Dr. Fresch and Habstrakt at venues such as RITZ Ybor in Tampa, FL, and Stereo Live in Dallas and Houston, TX. Haus of Panda is set to bring his live performances to a numerous number of shows across Asia.
