Torronto-based Keys N Krates have announced their third studio album, IN:TENSION, due to arrive in the fall. It is a follow-up to 2018’s Cura and 2021’s Original Classic. While keeping with traditional characteristics of their music, KNK are launching a new, house-flavored sound. To start things off, the trio have released a new single, ‘Higher,’ from the album.
Originally starting off more hip-hop oriented, the trio have since blended various bits of electronic music into their tracks, and now they’re going full speed ahead with house music, as evidenced in ‘Higher.’ Nonetheless, KNK are still delivering the amazing music they’re known for.
The album’s title, IN:TENSION, has a double meaning for Keys N Krates. It serves as a hyper-focused body of work for the trio, who previously only dabbled in house-y, four-on-the-floor production. Now, they hone in and embrace it by channeling their musical passion, citing inspiration from house and garage gurus such as Armand Van Helden and Masters At Work. The title also refers to the intense, energetic nature of the new sound, which will be put on full display during their tour throughout the United States.

The IN:TENSION Tour officially kicks off in September, hitting cities with major house roots such as Detroit and Chicago, as well as Seattle, Washington D.C., and more. The group — composed of drummer Adam Tune, keyboardist David Matisse, and turntablist Jr. Flo — are focusing their skills into a new era of music with the idea of putting the energy onto the dancefloor. As such, expect the trio to make their tour stops from behind the decks, as opposed to their historical live performances. With ‘Higher’ unleashing a new sound for Keys N Krates, we’re excited to hear more of the album!
