Greenlandic artist, VARNA GL, takes her audience by surprise with the first track of her debut album, “IDDORARPI”. As the first track of her project, produced by neonme, Varna GL pushes the boundaries of sound, creating a truly distinctive and immersive sci-fi atmosphere. The thumping beat, reminiscent of a heartbeat, sets the eerie tone as her haunting vocals intertwine with sound effects of trickling water and intricate percussion.
The musical production involving synths that soar to climactic peaks, continuously transport us to sonic realms. Speaking on the time she wrote the new single, VARNA GL cryptically describes her experience, moving to a new city as: “Overwhelmed and inspired by the big city which is now my new home. Feeling unfamiliar at the same time is a huge push towards growth”.

Pushing boundaries, VARNA GL’s music is deeply rooted in her ancestral heritage. Her distinct sound is inspired by the traditional East Greenlandic drum dance passed down to her from elders of her stem.
As a contemporary singer-songwriter, experimental composer, actor, social researcher and counsellor, VARNA GL speaks strongly as a cultural awakening, highlighting the spiritual power of the Greenlandic Inuit tradition. Not many people might know the history between Denmark and Greenland – but VARNA GL educates us by explaining ““A majority of Inuit in Greenland have temporarily lost connection to our ancient tradition as lived practice. A consequence of extreme “development” based on non-inuit cultural values and way of life has left people to prioritise different ways in order to survive. This system was never built for us, we are sucking the energy out of ourselves trying to constantly translate for someone else.”
A truly unique new single, in the realms of Arca, FKA Twigs or Banks. A true innovator with limitless potential.
