Check out Magnetic Mag’s exclusive interview with SAYMYNITTI below:

Your double-single release of “I Like My Techno” and “Misbehave” is so electrifying! What sparked the inspiration for these tracks? Were there any production challenges you had to overcome when making them?

SAYMYNAME: We had just landed in Dallas, and NITTI showed me the vocal and Idea for “I Like My Techno”. It caught on pretty quickly with fans at shows. Overall, both tracks are more club-inspired bangers for the DJ sets.

NITTI: While we were on the first SAYMYNITTI tour, we both were super inspired by this new wave of big room techno, future rave, so naturally, we ended up creating new stuff.

Combining old-school trance and high-octane techno is a hallmark of your signature style. Can you delve into how you merge these genres to create your unique sound, specifically in “I Like My Techno” and “Misbehave”?

SAYMYNAME: I think it is a good balance between the two styles. You can hear the trance sound more in the breakdowns, and the techno is the main focus in the drops.

NITTI: These two songs show a darker, sexier side to SAYMYNITTI. But we also have many classic rave style elements with big vocals and euphoric synths. It feels good to have both in our sets, and we wanted to be able to release both sides of the future techno and rave stuff.

“I Like My Techno” has a spellbinding robotic quality to its lyrics. Could you share the creative process behind crafting them and the significance of this robotic theme?

NITTI: I started recording the vocals on my iPhone before a show and just had to autotune and process the shit out of them until it sounded cool. I honestly love coming up with catchy lines and writing down random ideas. Luckily, we played it at our shows and finished it!

Contrasting the first single, “Misbehave” features seductive female vocals. How could you weave these lyrics throughout the instrumental to result in a hypnotic experience for listeners?

SAYMYNAME: I think the screech and other synths you hear throughout each drop complement the vocals. The vocals are so catchy and the dominant sound in the song overall, while everything works around it.

NITTI: This is another example of just using what we have around us. I sent an idea to Dayvid [SAYMYNAME] and he sent me back the future rave synths and some more drums. Then I had my girlfriend Gigi record the vocals. So you do not need Splice or vocalists all the time.

Both tracks are sure to lead dance floors into sonic chaos. Can you describe your vision for the live atmosphere when these anthems are played at a festival or show? What type of crazy crowd reactions have you seen from them so far?

SAYMYNAME: We played the tracks on tour at HARD Summer and Moonrise festival, and the crowds were moving when the tracks drop. We have been getting a BIG response at shows, from DJ peers, and on social media.

NITTI: It is crazy to see how when we played them at clubs, they went nuts, but also at festivals like Moonrise and HARD Summer. My favorite part about this stuff is it bridges the gap between darker underground techno and mainstage big-energy music.

How did you get introduced to rave culture when you were younger, and what aspects left the biggest impact on your musical career?

SAYMYNAME: I went to my first massive rave in LA in high school, and that night changed my life. I wanted to be on stage, period. I was already making some dance music, but that was the first time I heard it live on a festival system, and I was blown away.

NITTI: I started falling in love when I heard all the electro and trance music, from Cascada to Basshunter, and eventually stumbled onto Deadmau5, then Skrillex. From then on I knew dance music’s heavier, energetic side was my favorite. Finally, I learned to love all the subgenres and now use all those older influences to create our current tracks.

It is amazing to see how you both consistently deliver energetic and captivating live performances! What is your secret to connecting with the audience and keeping the energy high throughout your sets?

SAYMYNAME: Track selection and good on-stage presence are essential. The energy you bring on stage is contagious, and the fans feed off it.

NITTI: I love playing shows with SAYMYNAME because it makes a set more fun when someone is up there dancing and raging with you. I think the fans can see us having so much passion and fun with the music that it makes everyone want to let loose and enjoy the night.

Can you share a standout memory from your performance at the S20 Songkran Music Festival in South Korea, where you debuted your new sound?

SAYMYNAME: That was one of the loudest festival crowds I have seen.

NITTI: I remember after the first drop, just looking over, and both SAYMYNAME and started laughing in disbelief at how insane the crowd was. It was insanity from the beginning to the end.

You have had an incredible touring experience, from HARD Summer to Moonrise Festival and more. What are some of the top highlights of your recent tour together, and why?

SAYMYNAME: I would say HARD Summer was a huge highlight. Academy LA was insane as well, and the crowd reacted well to the new SAYMYNITTI sound.

NITTI: The festival sets were incredible, but I loved playing in the clubs and being close to people. We even played an afterparty in Korea and LA that was closer to an underground rave. We got to play some more underground music and mess around with the deeper techno songs we have.

NITTI, you have a rich history of collaborations and production credits, including a Grammy nomination. How has your diverse background influenced your work with SAYMYNITTI?

NITTI: I have always had fun trying new things. I WAS SUPER EXCITED when I realized we could dive into a sound and help revive it. I hit up SAYMYNAME to start working on sessions with vocalists to make our own rave and techno-inspired music.

SAYMYNAME, being recognized as the “Godfather of Hardtrap,”, can you explain what defines the Hardtrap genre and how it fits into SAYMYNITTI’s overall sound?

SAYMYNAME: Hardtrap is hardstyle mixed with trap. We have got some Hardtrap songs in the SAYMYNITTI set. It fits well because it is high energy and meshes with the trance and techno songs!

In addition to SAYMYNITTI, both of you have individual projects and with widespread success. How do you balance your solo careers with your work as a duo?

SAYMYNAME: I think time management is so important. We dedicated a month to writing a bulk of SAYMYNITTI music. That helped move things quicker.

NITTI: Yeah, we had to set aside time to work, but it was very worth it. It is always a matter of being organized and scheduling things out!

SAYMYNITTI has been described as a fusion of late 90s and early 2000s rave culture with contemporary production. Can you elaborate on how you find an equilibrium with these elements to create something fresh and exciting?

SAYMYNAME: You can hear the influence, from Basshunter to Cascada, in some of our tracks. We also add some of our sounds to create something fresh. You will hear some “SAYMYNAME” and “NITTI” mixed in with the old-school sound. It’s unique.

NITTI: The best way we found was to take those classic rave and techno sounds and to infuse our ideas and “modernize” them for 2023. We asked ourselves what we would make if we released new versions of those songs and mixed them with NITTI and SAYMYNAME sounds.

What is the future of electronic dance music, and how does SAYMYNITTI aim to contribute to its evolution? What role will the 90s and 2000s rave culture play in these plans?

SAYMYNAME: I see dance music coming full circle; by that, I mean older sounds coming back. History repeats itself, which is why the SAYMYNITTI sound is working now. We are bringing back an older rave sound that fans love and miss.

NITTI: There will always be room for music that feels nostalgic and new at the same time. As a fan of classic rave music, I even missed hearing and playing stuff like that. So, it is almost a way to fulfill our happiness. We are both happy and excited to make and release stuff we have not heard across mainstream dance music.

What can fans expect from SAYMYNITTI regarding upcoming releases and touring adventures?

SAYMYNAME: We have a lot of music on the way. Various big vocalists sing along tracks, and the club bangers as well. We just wrapped up our first tour and plan to do more shows together in 2024.

NITTI: MORE RAVE-INSPIRED MUSIC AND SHOWS!!
