It’s that time of year again when we have to put away our swimwear in favor of more serious pursuits, but even though the better part of the summer season is behind us, and the Southern Hemisphere is getting ready for Spring blooms, we still have disco to unite us, and that boogie fever never goes away! Let’s take a listen to the artists that made August one to remember!
August has some genuine goodies in the mix with offerings from Dave Lee, Chromeo, La Roux, Da Lukas with Saucy Lady, and more! It’s hard to deny the appeal of the music that is being played around the world by these and the other artists that have made the August chart sing!
I know I don’t like to be teased forever with a bunch of talk, so let’s dive right in and listen to some of the best disco and funk that August had to offer!

It is always a good time when HP Vince and Sammy Deuce come together to create music! “Close To You” is another shining example of the quality disco music these two can make. Bright brass, congas, bumping bass, and a simple but effective soulful vocal tie together the elements of this track, making it a modern disco classic.
Sun Rhythms are establishing themselves as real players in the disco genre lately, and “Desire” is another feather in their cap. This groove has a more subtle, late-night feel that will keep you dancing, but maybe more of a slow dance moment. The track is smooth and sexy. Check it out on the Rewind LTD. Vol. 2 compilation now.
Ken@Work is maintaining his reputation as one of the busiest disco producers in the biz. This time we find him on Mole Music with the ’80s infused “That Sax Track”, a jam that could have found its place happily on an early ’80s movie soundtrack. Who doesn’t love a little saxy time?
Coming in hot at the end of October is Eugenio Fico‘s “Get Down”. The Spa Club label is quickly establishing itself as a major disco label alongside its sister label Spa In Disco with excellent disco jams like this one. This track has a symphonic quality to it that blends beautifully with the soulful vocals and jamming basslines. This track is a true home run!
Speaking of Spa In Disco, the label has released another fantastic Latin-infused track with Matteo Matteini‘s “Sweet Trip”. The track is built around a simple piano loop, but then gets jazz-fluted up which will force you to sway to the music and maybe take your partner for a spin across the dancefloor!
Sasha Mitiko’s “Can’t Hide Love” is a soulful ride right back to the mid-’70s. This jam could easily have been featured on a movie soundtrack but would have also been welcomed at the hottest neighborhood disco. Mitiko is a genre veteran and proves why we want to keep hearing more from him!
Ladies on Mars is basically unstoppable right now! “Devil Eyes”, his collaboration with Ernesto Romeo has the feel of late ’70s Giorgio Moroder with a hint of Boney M. courtesy of the vocal. As they used to say on American Bandstand, “it’s fun to dance to”, and this track certainly is!
Listening to the Mannix (Primetime Disco Mix) of Drop Out Orchestra and Mishell Ivon‘s “He’s Always There” is like going to church in a disco! The lyrics are gospel-tinged and uplifting with a sweet disco beat underneath. You can find this one on Dafia Records. Preach!
Lup Ino has found a way to breathe new life into the Little Beaver soul classic “Get Into The Party”. This rework feels very contemporary while maintaining the integrity of the original track. This is how to make a song that was long locked away in a time capsule and bring it into the new Millenium.
Saint-Loup-En-Bray might not be giving the subject of this song any love, but I am definitely giving plenty of love to “I Ain’t Giving My Love To You Tonight”! This track is a funky nu-disco jam with plenty of ’80s synths and funk bass to give the song some retro flair. Find this on Spa In Disco Records.
Igor Gonya must never sleep, between making excellent disco and deep house tracks while running several record labels. “At One’s Ease” is a classic disco jam found on his own Gonya Entertainment label. This track has all of the classic disco elements, featuring swirling strings balanced by sweet vocals and a driving bass line. Gonya is here to start the party and keep it going!
