Hi Cammora! How are you?

I am great!

Can you walk us through your journey into Electronic Music production? What first inspired you to start producing?

My journey into Electronic music production ignited during my teenage years, when I had an intense passion for Electronic music. At the same time, sneaking into clubs was a game-changer for me. The vibrant atmosphere, pulsating beats, and the way the music brought people together left an indelible mark on me.

This deep love for Electronic music fuelled my desire to create my own. I wanted to capture the same emotions and energy that I experienced on those dance floors. So, I embarked on my production journey, experimenting with sounds, learning from my musical influences, gradually discovering and developing my style.

What is your most used piece of equipment?

My speakers! I have a couple of Focal CMS-50s, which have endured countless hours of hard operation and abuse. They are almost 10 years into my possession, and they haven’t let me down.

Do you have a favourite DAW?

I like both Ableton Live and Logic. I use them both, but if I had to choose one, I would go with Logic. I find that it suits my creative process exceptionally well. Its user-friendly interface, robust features, and structure allow me to bring my musical ideas to life with ease. It’s become an integral part of my production workflow, helping me translate my inspirations into the tracks you hear today.

Can you tell us how you approach starting a new track? Can you share your creative process?

It typically begins with a spark of inspiration, which can come from anywhere – a melody that pops into my head, an audio sample, a mood, or even a specific emotion I want to convey. From there, I delve into my DAW, laying down the initial musical elements like chords or a beat. I often find that building a solid foundation early on helps guide the creative process. Next, I explore different soundscapes and experiment with various synths and samples to shape the track’s sonic identity.

Throughout this journey, I stay open to the track’s evolution. It’s essential to let the music lead, allowing unexpected twists and turns to shape the final result. This balance between structure and spontaneity keeps the creative process exciting and ensures that each track I produce has its unique story to tell.

Do you have any specific production techniques that you use to elevate your tracks?

Yes, there are several production techniques I use to elevate my tracks. One key approach is the careful selection of sound design elements. I spend a significant amount of time crafting and layering sounds to create a rich and unique sonic palette.

Additionally, I spend a lot of time listening to music from various genres, not just within the Electronic Music spectrum. Many times, I found myself inspired and adapting sound elements and techniques from other genres to my work.

I’m also a big believer in experimentation. Trying out unconventional effects, arrangement structures, and rhythmic patterns can lead to unexpected and exciting results that can set a track apart.

Lastly, I value highly collaboration. Working with talented vocalists, musicians or fellow producers often brings new perspectives and strengths to the production, resulting in tracks that are more dynamic and engaging.

Ultimately, it’s this combination of meticulous attention to detail, experimentation, and collaboration that allows me to consistently push the boundaries and elevate my music.

What do you think is important to keep in mind when producing?

When producing, it’s crucial to strike a balance between drawing inspiration from other artists and avoiding direct mimicry. While it’s natural to be inspired by the work of others, it’s equally important to carve out your unique musical identity.

What plugins would you recommend to a novice producer?

For novice producers, I recommend starting with a few essential plugins that cover the basics:

Virtual Instruments: A versatile virtual instrument like Native Instruments’ Kontakt or Xfer Records’ Serum can provide a wide range of sounds to work with.

EQ and Compression: Plugins like FabFilter Pro-Q 3 (for EQ) and Waves SSL G-Master Buss Compressor (for compression) are user-friendly and effective for shaping your sound.

Reverb and Delay: Valhalla VintageVerb and Soundtoys EchoBoy offer great options for adding depth and space to your tracks.

Synthesizers: For those diving into synthesis, Synth1 or Arturia’s Analog Lab offer excellent starting points.

Effects: Soundtoys’ Effect Rack or iZotope’s Nectar Elements provide various creative effects and processing options.

Remember, it’s more about how you use these plugins than the number you have. Start with a few and master them before expanding your toolkit.

How do you keep inspired and remain motivated?

To stay inspired and motivated, I keep my creative juices flowing through diverse musical exploration, collaboration with other artists, and drawing inspiration from life experiences, feelings and emotions. These elements together help me maintain a consistent source of inspiration.

Which element of a track is your favourite to produce and why?

My favourite element to produce in a track is the rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a song, driving its energy and groove. Creating intricate and infectious rhythms allows me to explore different patterns and beats, adding a dynamic and danceable quality to my music. It’s the foundation upon which I build the entire sonic experience.
