Melodic house has been one of the de-facto genres dominating the dance music industry for a long enough period now that, with as saturated as the DPSs are with the genre, when another arp-driven-and-atmospheric single hit the airwaves, we’re left wondering, “What’s this new one do that all the others don’t?!”

Night Breeze & Dias Ridge’s new EP, which dropped today on Where The Heart is Records, answers this question so quickly that it almost feels like an afterthought (and I mean that in the best possible way).

Where so many melodic and progressive house producers cram every inch of the mix in with nuance and detail, Night Breeze & Dias Ridge take a more minimal approach to the sonic aesthetics, harking back to the early days of the genre when the music was driving and club-friendly instead of an amalgamation of whatever’s got the best chance to be playlisted.

So listen below before we break down each track and discover why it’s making waves…

Breakdown: ‘Deep Into The Blue’

The title track of the EP, ‘Deep Into The Blue’ is vocal-driven and creates a lush and forward-propelling momentum right from the start that is kept alive through delicate counter melodies and warm percussions.

Outside of that, though, the track is left markedly and tastefully thin, allowing for little distraction as it slowly builds and weaves throughout the arrangement. Overall, it’s no surprise why this track caught the attention of label founder David Hohme, who recently dropped in his newsletter that the track came onto his radar when it was sent to him through his Patreon community, of which Night Breeze is a member.

Breakdown: ‘Descent’

The supporting track on the EP leans heavily into the syncopated chord pluck sound that was popularized throughout the golden eras of the progressive house. But with so many producers taking the more Anjunadeep-style of the genre, which favorites massive arps and club-friendly builds, ‘Descent’ is more of a rolling mid-set groove given a small-but-needed touch of detail with its intricate delays which tickle the edges of the stereo field at choice moments of the track.
