April’s selection encompasses a ton of Lost Lands headliners and underground artists, reflecting experimental bass, wubs, dubstep, trap, riddim, and everything in between. Enter the realm of sonic experimentation as we shed light on various bass-powered anthems and their creators.

SIPPY – The Banana Song [Monstercat]

Filled with infectious, funky energy and irresistible wobble-infused beats, SIPPY’s “The Banana Song” has become a top bass track of the year thus far. It perfectly embodies the essence of bass music: fun, uplifting, and occasionally headbang-worthy. Despite its April Fools’ Day release as a playful anthem, the track expertly balances humor with its ability to hype up listeners.

Released on Monstercat, the track’s backstory, including the 3-week live stream of a banana, adds intrigue. Packed with Rasta vibes, its animated music video featuring the dancing Bananadan further enhances its appeal.

Slang Dogs – Seething Eyes [Self-Release]

In 2020, Slang Dogs burst onto the bass music scene with their original atmospheric and low-end focused sound. Collaborating with artists such as REAPER, Eugene, and Mythm, they became regulars on Bassrush Records, solidifying their presence. In 2023, Slang Dogs graced stages at Lightning in a Bottle, Lost Lands, and Apocalypse Fest, cementing their place in the bass music community. Now this duo is furthering their legacy with “Seething Eyes,” a terrifyingly good fusion of seductive lyrics, low-end bass, and pure experimentation.

Zeds Dead, Flux Pavilion, DeathbyRomy – Waves [Deadbeats x Circus Records]

In their latest collaboration, “Waves,” Zeds Dead has joined forces with Flux Pavilion and DeathbyRomy. This track is a testament to Zeds Dead’s sound expertise, delivering finely tuned melodies suitable for any listening device. Premiered during Zeds Dead’s Electric Forest headlining set last June, “Waves” immediately gripped fans, becoming one of the most anticipated and requested tracks. This emotive dubstep piece merges a potent topline with the distinct production styles of both Zeds Dead and Flux Pavilion.

Phocust, Cafe Disko, AUDIA – Hollow [Circus Records]

Tyler Shiffer, known as Phocust, is an American bass music producer and DJ celebrated for his melodic wobbles and signature dubstep sounds. His unique style has garnered support from renowned artists like Ace Aura, Chime, and Boogie T, among others. With performances at clubs and festivals worldwide, Phocust has shared stages with icons such as deadmau5, Tiësto, and ILLENIUM, fortifying his position in the electronic music scene.

Linking up with Cafe Disko and AUDIA for “Hollow,” this track is the epitome of low-end bass being used to hypnotize its audience. A cool dynamic of this tune is that it is powered by a riveting yet soft female lyrical lead, but also organically weaves in hip-hop-based vocal sample at certain points.

Effin – Love Potion [Create Music Group]

Effin is onehis way to a 3-peat, after being featured in March’s Bass charts with “In The Sky.” This trailblazing artist boasts a sound the welds classical inspiration with new-age experimental bass. “Love Potion” is a potent, psychoactive remedy for anyone in search of a third-eye-opening sonic experience. It is paired with a nostalgic and trippy visualizer that is easy to get lost in.

Mr. Bill, Undershelly, ill-esha – Haze [Monstercat]

Renowned bass music artist, Mr. Bill, recently released his debut album on Monstercat, Mechanomorphic, featuring collaborations with The Widdler, Infected Mushroom, Dirt Monkey, and more. The album’s title, “Mechanomorphic,” embodies themes of machinery and innovation, mirroring the ongoing interaction between humans and technology in today’s digital era. With 18 tracks, the LP delves into the fusion of creativity and technology, paying homage to the dynamic evolution of music production. “Haze” is definitely a standout on the project, as Mr. Bill, Underbelly and ill-esha forge feel-good soundscapes and vocals fused with color bass.

ALLEYCVT – MISS U AGAIN [Wubaholics]

ALLEYCVT, an emerging force in bass music, enchants audiences with her innovative sound and dynamic live showHer style, characterized by midtempo heavy bass and stunning vocals, defies easy categorization. With her storytelling prowess and skillful production evident in each track, ALLEYCVT’s rise on festival lineups heralds a promising career trajectory.

OkayJake, Gunpoint – Bright Shadows [WAKAAN]

“Bright Shadows,” a collaboration between Atlanta-based bass music producer OkayJake and Dallas artist Gunpoint, is a mesmerizing fusion of trap and underground bass. Jake Friant, aka OkayJake, is known for flawlessly blending melody and distortion, embracing a genre-less approach to surprise his audience with each release. Gunpoint, born Aviel Samuel, draws from a deep love for music rooted in piano playing. Inspired by RL Grime, Zeds Dead, and more, Gunpoint’s music evokes intense emotions, mirroring life’s contrasts with hard-hitting bass and emotionally rich tones. Together, they create an immersive experience, delivering a balance of excitement and passion in “Bright Shadows.”

Jaenga – Ancestors [SubCarbon]

A perfect release for SubCarbon, “Ancestors” is the lead and title single on Jaenga’s four-track EP. On both the sonic and visual spectrum, it has strong ties to labelboss Ganja White Night’s iconic song, “Chak Chel.” Just a few of these similarities are the native vocal chants and the vibrant aesthetic of pyramids and ancient Aztec tropes. The icing on the cake is the river of low-end wubs that flow throughout.

TVBOO, Mport – Cha Cha Step [Self-Release]

Maintaining TVBOO and Mport’s trademark comedic flairs, “Cha Cha Step” presents a thrilling reimagining of a childhood classic. This track is a fusion of bass culture, incorporating terms like “wook,” “wubs,” and “headbang,” alongside mind-bending wonky drops sure to immerse audiences in a psychedelic trance. Just imagine hearing this at a wedding or Bar Mitzvah, and watching everyone to get into it before being shell-shocked from the barrage of dubstep thrown their way.

Heyz – Coming Up (Like That) [Bassrush Records]

Hailing from the pinnacle of bass music, Denver, Colorado, HEYZ has become one of the fastest-rising artists across the music festival circuit and electronic as a whole. His latest track, “Coming Up (Like That),” showcases his promising future. HEYZ masterfully builds anticipation with chordal crescendos and reverberating white noise before dropping into a half-time groove. He manipulates sound variable methodically to enhance the track’s dynamics, keeping listeners engaged throughout. Powered by a seductive vocal, this banger is a go-to for warehouse raves.

Maddy O’Neal, zoska – Won’t Back Down [Self-Release]

Maddy O’Neal is on a music-making spree with her latest release, “Won’t Back Down,” features a powerful partnership with rising female artist zoska. The track kicks off with an orchestral arrangement, immediately capturing attention with its unique intro, setting it apart from typical bass tracks. zoska showcases her melodic prowess with hooks from the outset, pulling listeners into the drop. Maddy infuses her trademark vivacity into the production, injecting energy and warm vibes. The artwork for this track is as beautiful and intricate as the sound it radiates.

SoDown, Homemade Spaceship – Issa Vibe [GetDownRecords]

Even though GRiZ is on hiatus, he is clearly not the only saxophone-wielding legend in the scene. SoDown epitomizes seizing life’s opportunities and expressing love through bass music. Renowned for electrifying live sets, blending vibrant saxophone melodies with thunderous bass, he’s performed at festivals like Red Rocks, Coachella, Electric Forest, and more. His journey promises boundless creativity and continued success. Uniting with rising artist Homemade Spaceship yields a mind-bending result, as “Issa Vibe” is equal parts funky and wubby.

LŪN, ZABO – that’s what you get [fox skull records]

The darkest release on this month’s chart, LŪN and ZABO’s “that’s what you get” plunges you into a bass-fueled abyss. Its vocal is simultaneously haunting and hypnotic, making you want to throw your head through a brick wall when the drop kicks in. 

Niagara Falls native Dan Szabo, aka ZABO, discovered electronic music early. Studying audio and recording at OIART in London, Ontario, he honed his skills. Influenced by Toronto’s bass scene, ZABO transitioned to his signature midtempo sound, pairing optimally with that of LŪNs.

Sharlitz Web, Shanghai Doom – Robotic Spider [WAKAAN]

In their collaborative track “Robotic Spider,” Shanghai Doom and Sharlitz Web merge their unparalleled two styles into one, birthing a spine-tingling dive into bass exploration. Shanghai Doom, an experimental bass duo from Central Jersey, brings sinister tones and heavy basslines. Meanwhile, Sharlitz Web, whose sound is inspired by life’s pain and beauty, weaves liquid basses and dark melodies. Together, they create an unforgettable sonic voyage in this wook-centric anthem.
