No shortage of big tunes in techno this past month. The genre was firing on all cylinders once again with great tunes all across the color spectrum. Rebuke hammered out a trio of nostalgic tunes on Truesoul. La Fleur conjured up a beauty on Kompakt. Veerus brought a big one to Drumcode. And of course, the one and only, Egbert, sliced up quite the remix on Sinisa Tamamamovic’s “Rings” and it’s our top tune of the month.

1. “RINGS (EGBERT REMIX)” – SINISA TAMAMOVIC [YOSHITOSHI]

Egbert is capable of nothing less than brilliance and his remix of “Rings” by Sinisa Tamamovic is no exception whatsoever. With it’s rolling bass-line complemented by quirky electronic fills and snappy rhythms, this remix is outstanding! 10/10 for me.

2. “TEARS” – LA FLEUR [KOMPAKT EXTRA]

La Fleur’s debut on Kompakt is this moody affair which is just sublime. The tune is titled “Tears” and it’s been marked as a highlight in her sets since she started playing it out in mid-2018.

3. “50 FIRST RAVES” – REBUKE [TRUESOUL]

Rebuke’s debut on Truesoul is an odyssey into the sound of early ’90s techno and it’s led off by the buoyant title tune, “50 First Raves.”

4. “POSERS RAY GUN” – REBUKE [TRUESOUL]

It wouldn’t be proper to wrap up the best of April without including two of the three belters on Rebuke’s 50 First Raves EP.

5. “HYPNOSIS” – VEERUS [DRUMCODE]

Big tunes always stand well on their own but when I witnessed Nicole Moudaber hammer this one at Coachella, I was completely sold on yet another wicked Drumcode track.

6. “ALL I NEED TO GET HIGH (AE:THER DREAM DUB REMIX)” – DAMIAN LAZARUS & THE ANCIENT MOONS [CROSSTOWN REBELS]

Nine months after the initial release of Damian Lazarus’ 2018 full length, Heart Of Sky, it’s lead tune gets a single release along with two great remixes including this spectacular revision by the future techno star known as Ae:ther.

7. “KONA” – ALAN FITZPATRICK + CAMELPHAT [WE ARE THE BRAVE]

House music stars, Camelphat teamed up with techno master, Alan Fitzpatrick on this outstanding techno track they’ve titled, “KONA.”

8. “STAR ALLIES” – SPENCER BROWN & RAITO [MAU5TRAP]

San Francisco’s Spencer Brown and French techno wiz, Raito got together for this one track affair on Mau5trap. An unexpected label for the tune to take flight on but not surprising given Deadmau5′ renewed interest in techno.

9. “ENDLESS MEMORY” – EARTHLIFE [STEYOYOKE]

Italian-born, Ibiza-based, production duo, Earthlife debut on Steyoyoke with four mind-expanding choons that all deserve their own individual attention but “Endless Memory” is the one I find to be the most captivating.

10. “DEUTSCHE WELLE” – PAN-POT [SECOND STATE]

Pan-Pot’s second tune on the Radio Berlin EP, “Deutsche Welle” is just as gritty as the title tune except it goes bit deeper and darker than the former.

11. “BEARTRAP (SOLAXID REMIX)” – BARBUTO & MITTENS [OFF RECORDINGS]

Barbuto & Mittens make their debut on Off Recordings with a pair of originals along with remixes to go with them including this psyched out revision by Solaxid!

12. “APPARATION” – ASTRONOMAR [MY TECHNO WEIGHS A TON]

L.A.’s own, Astronomar debuts on the the ultra-cool, My Techno Weighs A Ton with a pair of slicers including this hi-hat lovin’ jam titled, “Apparation.”

13. “END OF TIME” – RESET ROBOT [HOTFLUSH]

Static, distortion, and a pulverizing kick-drum highlight this excellent Reset Robot production on Scuba‘s own, long-running Hotflush imprint.

14. “GOLDEN HOUR” – THOMAS SCHUMACHER [ELECTRIC BALLROOM]

Big-room, acid techno is the name of the game on this belter by Thomas Schumacher on his own imprint, Electric Ballroom.

15. “DEEP SKY EXPLORER” – BECK AND RIUS [FIERCE ANIMAL RECORDINGS]

This relatively new duo, Becks and Rius land on San Francisco label, Fierce Animal with three varied techno tunes including this floor-burner they call “Deep Sky Explorer.”
